Chili, garlic, ginger, and galangal — Bubumbu brings Indonesian spices to life with faces, feelings, and a little girl who makes learning to cook the most fun thing in the room.

Interactive Media Design — Bubumbu

A delightfully charming interactive education media identity for Bubumbu — a digital learning platform designed to introduce Indonesian culinary culture, spices, and cooking knowledge to young learners through playful, character-driven interaction.
The icon composition is a celebration of the Indonesian dapur (kitchen) reimagined as an animated world: a warm brown mortar and pestle at the center holds a gathering of personified spices — garlic with a shy smile, tiny peppercorns huddled together, and other bumbu characters rendered in the round, expressive chibi style of children's educational media. Flying and floating above them: a red chili with spirited eyes, a shallot (bawang merah) in playful pink, a kaffir lime in cheerful green, and galangal rendered as a friendly root creature — each one a distinct character with its own personality, embodying the ingredient it represents.
The central figure is a young Javanese girl — dark hair in a braid, yellow frangipani flower tucked behind her ear, warm brown skin — smiling with the open delight of someone who loves everything happening in her kitchen. Her presence grounds the spice characters in human warmth and cultural identity: this is Indonesian cooking, through Indonesian eyes, for Indonesian children.
The "BUBUMBU" wordmark is set in a chunky, rounded display typeface on a warm wooden brown panel — earthy, tactile, and reminiscent of a carved wooden kitchen sign. The sky-blue background gives the composition airiness and warmth — a kitchen that feels like play rather than work.
An educational media identity that makes Indonesian culinary heritage feel like an adventure — one spice character at a time.
